On June 1, 2019, the final defense and “Zhongsheng Award” design competition for the Nine Western Universities of Architecture Teaching Union and the Magazine of Planners (9+1) was successfully held in the School of Human Settlement Environment, Xi'an Jiaotong University. The theme of this event is “Protection and Recycling Design of Xi'an Textile City Industrial Heritage Area” , which is located in the Textile City Industrial Zone of Baqiao District，Xi'an City. Starting from the reasonable protection and recycling of industrial heritage and activating the area, the activities are carried out from the city, landscape and architecture levels. The professional teaching alliance and the magazine Planner carried out the teaching activities. Wu Lian, Dean of School of Architecture, Liu Qibo, Vice-Dean of School of Architecture, Baihua, assistant rector of School of Architecture and more than 20 teachers and students were participated in the activity.
From March 4, 2019, to June 1, 2019, this graduate design and competition lasted nearly three months. It came from the construction of 9 universities of Chang'an University, Kunming University of Technology, Sichuan University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Northwest University, Northwest University, Southwest Jiaotong University, Xinjiang University and Xihua University.
About 150 students and 60 instructors from majors of architecture, urban and rural planning and landscape architecture participated in the design activity. The graduate design was divided into three stages: topic opening investigation, mid-term report and final reply. There are 47 architecture groups, 11 urban and rural planning groups and 6 landscape architecture groups participated in the final reply. The competition invited Liu Jianjun, Dean of Shaanxi zhongsheng planning and design research institute co., LTD, Luo Rong, Director of East China architectural design and research institute co. LTD, Li Minquan, Visiting Professor of Department of Architecture, School of Urban Science and Technology, Chongqing University, ,Wang Tieming, Chief Architect of Shanghai Yijing architectural design co., LTD, Ren Yuanyuan, director of Hualan design (group) co., LTD, and other experts, together with the teachers of the Nine Western Schools to carry on the evaluation for the designs.
After fierce competition, it finally awarded 5 first prizes, 7 second prizes and 11 Third prizes. The Architecture, Urban and Rural Planning and Landscape Architecture majors of our university have all won the first and second prizes of graduation design.
