From September 26 to 28, 2019, Supported by Networking Grant, Global Challenges Research Fund, co-sponsored by Chang’an University (the School of Architecture, the School of Environmental Science and Engineering), Hunan University (the School of Architecture), Cardiff University (the Institute of Sustainable Development), Dublin University (the School of Architecture) and Koman advanced technical university, the 2nd International Symposium on Elastic Urbanization Based on Watershed Scale was successfully held in Chang'an University.
In July and September of 2019, the research team has two separate investigations on the Yanhe River Basin in depth. From July 21 to 26, 2019, at the invitation of Professor Hou Quanhua, Vice Dean of School of Architecture, Chang’ an University, 12 researchers, including Pro. Xu Yiqing and A/Prof. Ran Jing from Hunan University visited Yanhe River Basin for 5 days. The investigation is from Tianciwan Town to joining belt of Yan River and Huang River, focusing on the present situation of villages, towns, industrial development, road traffic construction and ecological environment protection. From September 26 to 27, 2019, Lecturer Guo Ting from Chang'an University, Professor Ran Jing from Hunan University, Professor Adrian Healy and Professor Brian Mac Gillivary from Cardiff University, Professor Raza Hassanzedeh and Professor Mohadeseh Hosseininia from Koman advanced technical university visited the site again, focusing on the reconstruction of the disaster areas in Yan'an old town, Yan 'an new area planning and yanhe river basin village construction status.
On September 28, Professor Hou Quanhua, Vice Dean of the School of Architecture, Chang'an University, Professor Luo Pingping, the School of Environmental Science and Engineering, Chang’ an University, Associate Professor Ran Jing, School of Architecture, Hunan University, Professor Adrian Healy and Professor Brian Mac Gillivary, Cardiff University, Professor Raza Hassanzedeh and Professor Mohadeseh Hosse, Koman advanced technical university, and more than 20 others attended the seminar.
At the beginning of the meeting, Professor Hou Quanhua warmly welcomed the visiting professors from Britain and Iran, and introduced the development process and current teaching conditions of school of Architecture, Chang'an University.
During the meeting, Professor Hou Quanhua, Professor Luo Pingping, Associate Professor Ran Jing, Professor Adrian Healy, Professor Brian Mac Gillivary, Professor Raza Hassanzedeh and Professor Mohadeseh Hosseininia reported on the progress and achievements of the sub-topics respectively. And the meeting group also had a video conferencing with Professor Karen Foley from University of Dublin, Professor Terry Marsden and Professor Tristram C. Hales from Cardiff University. This meeting mainly discussed the problems found in the two field studies in depth, and carried out exchanges on the next step of research and cooperation plans, preliminarily determined the next step of research division, and formed the consensus of scientific research cooperation and foreign exchanges.
