On June 6, 2020, the 5th Cross-Straits Architectural College Final Graduation Design Presentation and Conference jointly organized by Huaqiao University, Suzhou University of Science and Technology, National Quemoy University and Changan University, hosted by Huaqiao University was successful held online. Besides the teachers and students who participated in the joint graduation design, the conference also invited Lin Zhenfu, deputy Principal planner and professor-level senior engineer of Xiamen City Planning and Design Institute, and Shen Ying, principal planner of the Planning Institute of Zhangzhou City Planning and Design Institute, Wang Xiaohui, deputy principal planner of Shenzhen Leiao Planning and Design Consulting Co., Ltd. and general manager of Xiamen Branch, Xu Hongbin, director of the Third Institute of Planning, Xiamen Branch of Tianjin Urban Planning and Design Institute, Xiao Ming, associate professor of School of Architecture, Huaqiao University, Dr. Yang Jialin, former director of the Famous City Office of the Urban and Rural Planning Bureau of Zhangzhou City, and Associate Professor Zeng Yiren, director of Department of Architecture at National Quemoy University, as the critic guests. 10 class of 2015 students and their advisors Hou Quanhua and Zhang Jianxin of our school’s urban planning department participated in this event.
The topic of this joint graduation project is Planning and Design of Shimei Area of Zhangzhou Taiwanese Investment District under the Background of Rural Transformation and Integration. The Zhangzhou Taiwanese Investment District is located at the estuary of the Jiulong River, located in the middle of Xiamen and Zhangzhou City, and has a close relationship with Taiwan. Shimei Area is in the south of the center of Taiwanese Investment District, at the junction of Jiulong River and Shimei Port Ecological Cultural Corridor. With the rapid development of Taiwanese Investment District, Shimei, which has rich historical and cultural characteristics, will certainly usher in new opportunities and challenges. How to deal with traditional settlements and historical heritage in the context of rapid urbanization? Explore the development of Shimei area under the background of rural transformation and integration from the aspects of traditional settlement transformation and development, cultural heritage protection and utilization, restoration of landscape pattern, liveable environment construction, etc. The design content includes two parts: conceptual planning and the urban design of key section in Shimei area.
Online Final Defense Meeting
The joint graduation design, started on March 10 and ended on June 6, lasts about 3 months. Due to epidemic situation, the joint graduation design was conducted online from the opening ceremony, mid-term review to the final defense. With the efforts of teachers and students together, it achieved a very good teaching result. Students’ design results are rich and diverse, and full of creativity. Also each university has distinctive styles and characteristics. After the final presentation, the teachers of the four universities held a joint graduation design teaching seminar, and conducted in-depth discussions on the improvement of teaching quality from the aspects of organization structure, teaching methods, communication and cooperation, etc.
