Professor Liu Yong from the Department of Urban and Rural Planning, School of Architecture, has been awarded funding by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) under its Emergency Management Program. His project, “Research on Constructing a Positive Interaction Mechanism of Industrial Upgrading, Population Agglomeration, and Urban Development from the Perspective of Urban–Rural Integration,” is one of only seven projects nationwide to receive this support. It is also the university’s first NSFC-funded project in 2025.

The project combines expertise across multiple disciplines and applies advanced technologies such as big data analytics, artificial intelligence, remote sensing, and spatial planning models. By developing an intelligent decision-support system for urban–rural integration, the research aims to address challenges such as data silos, limited simulation accuracy, and insufficient policy coordination. Its outcomes are expected to provide important technical support for optimizing industrial layout, predicting population mobility, and improving urban spatial resource allocation to meet major national strategic needs.

This achievement represents a significant breakthrough for the School of Architecture in NSFC project applications and highlights Professor Liu Yong’s team’s continued advancement in urban–rural integration research.
